Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Ride a mile in my shoes.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Idea!
On one of the photography forums I'm a member of, they have a cheap $80 lens that they send around to people on the list and everyone takes pictures then forwards it on.
If no one's doing this already, how about we do it with pedals? I have a set of Shimano SPD Moutain pedals (the base ones) that came on my Fisher that I replaced with Time pedals. I'm getting a road bike, but I'm willing to sacrifice these to a greater cause and fork out the dough for new road pedals.
If I buy a set of cleats, I could take some pictures and do a ride and post up the information. Then I could send the cleats and pedals to the first person on the list and they could put them on, take pictures and do a ride and then pass them on to the next person. Regardless of if you already have shimano pedals, you could put these on for at least one ride and that way we would have a set of pedals that could truly travel the world. We could log miles and destinations and I think it would be a cool thing to do.
So is anyone on BF doing this already and if not, would any of you be interested in doing this?

And my Time pedals work perfectly well, but that's not quite the point.

It's too easy to crossthread pedals. One lil boo-boo and it's over!
We have a "for trade" sticky, not sure if there was ever a clyde/athena "pay it forward" sticky, but if all you want is for your old pedals to go to a good home, you could put them in the for trade sticky in exchange for postage. :)
(ps... I'm very happy with my eggbeaters as well :D )

Maybe there's a simpler way to get to the spirit of what your suggesting. Perhaps mounting a small figure to a clip that could go on someone's handlebars, like the traveling gnome. Something where people wouldn't have to pull out a wrench to play along. It'd be fun. Smaller would be better for postage reasons. Other than that I do not have a better answer for you.

I'm in favor of the gnome idea. Pedals are a little more involved than some people will want to bother with and you cut the number of participants even further when you consider how many people are riding platforms.

The gnome is a classic, but it’s been done. Anything could be used in place of the gnome, it just needs to be fairly unique and easily identifiable in the photos. Extra points if it is associated with the forum. A Clydesdale figure would seem appropriate. Even a specific photo of a Clydesdale would do. Makes it easy for anyone to print and apply to their bike somehow.
The downside of a printed image is that it isn’t a single physical object that has gone all over and been in all the photos. However, the project would go a lot faster without the bottleneck of a single item being shipped around.

Patience is a virtue.
What about a can of Budweiser? Get it? :roflmao2:
OK, not that funny.
I like the idea, but like has been said, maybe something other than pedals...

Excuse me, I'm out to go spray-paint gold a plastic horse and find a way to stick it to my helmet.

The problem with a can of beer is that it's illegal to ship alcohol across state/provincial/international borders, without a special permit, this is because of the taxes..... How about a stuffed Clydesdale????
Let me clarify, I mean the horse, to many of us are "stuffed" already:D

Thats ^ it! Anyone live near a Budweiser Brewery? I'll happily take photos of the little critter riding around NZ and forward it on.

My pedals are 1/2" thread. It would take a big wrench.

Could be anything, don't forget there are Athenas in this forum, perhaps something gender neutral. A crazy-haired Troll doll w/bike shorts, or plastic fruit, or a bronzed piece of pizza. One could even hang shoes from the handlebars.... on second thought, I got nothing

But does that count if I've already drank the contents of said can?

O.K., So, we need an Athena doll riding the clydesdale! We'll see how many remarks this thing garners on it's journey. Anyone know of any "Ride of the Valkyries" figurines?
