What taper if any would be recommended for an upcoming ride this weekend (Vancouver to Seattle)? I rode hard this weekend. Commute to work and back today (13 miles easy) and will ride with a group on an easy ride for about 18 miles this evening. What is suggested for the rest of the week?

Thanks

I'd say that you should simply spin some quality miles, keeping your legs primed. If you do any more hardcore efforts, try and curtail them by Thursday, at the latest.

If I'm following your itinerary correctly, it looks like you're doing this distance in two days. In that case, the taper isn't entirely necessary - not the same as doing it all in one bite, a'la STP - though it's wise to take your pace on day one at something less than full-tempo, as you'll want something left in the tank for day two. After day one, stretch and refuel well (especially crucial to start refueling properly within an hour of the end of riding on day one) and get some good rest going into day two. For day two, build up gradually from the start of the ride so you'll have something left for the last 20-or-so miles of the ride.

Should be fun! Take notes and pix - and post 'em here!

The week before an important event, I try to do half the miles I did in the previous week and with less intensity. The hope is to be rested and still in trim at the same time.
