I have the opportunity to pick up a neat old vintage custom bike. The frame was made by a builder who as far as I can tell retired after about 500 bikes. I know what I'm willing to pay for the bike so that's not my question; I am more interested in how classic customs hold their value?
Are the factory, more well known frames holding value better than these relatively unknown bikes? Is a factory high-end 80's Trek worth more than a custom frame of the same vintage? The frame I am looking at is Columbus and very finely finished with full Nuovo-Record group all for around $500 (without haggling) but Ive seen other factory built bikes go for around the same. Any thoughts?
Thanks
