it looks like its a slightly later model, and apparently the tubing is good. I think with a couple careful changes this could be an excellent tourer (new brake levers.. fenders and racks).
I am looking at this for a friend, and I would like to make sure they are getting a good bike that they will be able to enjoy for a long time (she has already done some extended tours but never on a touring bike)

It may just be the angle from the photo and not to sound like a cliche, but the fork looks bent to me. If the fork is okay, that would be a pretty good price for the bike.

It also has Biopace chainrings which some like and others hate. The fork does look bent but maybe it is the picture. I would say it is worth it.
It looks loke a 1986 model.

I think that it is worth the asking price. Nice very well built touring bike.
Good deal! Fork angle is really weird though. I would have to check it really close. Compare it to the angle on my 1987 Miyata 215ST, similar construction (triple butted cromoly), similar vintage. Quite a difference. If you can believe C/L ad, the 610 is the same size as my 215. I think the 610 is a size smaller, probably a 21 inch frame (my 215 is a 23 inch frame, which has a 22 inch seat tube, center to center).
Also notice the paint defect right where the fork seems to bend forward? Ding, ding, ding, caution.

Looks to me as though the angle he has the bars positioned is showing the back of the left fork leg in a way that accents the curve of the right leg, so it looks like a deeper bend to the rear.
Any idea what that chrome 'screw' in the fork is for?
Ken.

The chrome screw in the middle of the fork is there to attach a set of lowrider front pannier racks onto the bike. The bottom leg of the rack bolts into one of the 2 eyelets on the tips of the fork blades.

It's a solid bike but not a steal at that price. If it fits, it would be a nice tourer. With the canti brakes you might be stuck with the original wheel size. Is it 27" or 700? Do you care? Rear spacing can be modified but is also something to consider.

a quick followup,
we bought the bike (he came down to 220 before we could make an offer despite other people were in line to see the bike too), it was in great shape and barely ridden (the fork was definitely straight). My friend is buying racks/fenders/saddle and new brake levers today (i really dont know why they snuck those 'suicide levers' on such a nice frame).
also if anyone was wondering the wheels are indeed 700c and it looks like there is plenty of room for fenders and 32mm tires (and possibly a bit bigger).
overall it was a great buy, and she is really going to appreciate it on her tour in a couple weeks!
thanks for the help! I'll post photo's of it built up if she takes some.
I would put this as a $400 bike. Nice catch!!
