Southeast - Daytona International Speedway question

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have seen postings from other parts of the US where a major speedway was used for various cycling events. Has Daytona Int. Speedway ever been used for this purpose in the past or does anyone have info on an event that might occure in the future?
Just curious.

I looked into this about a year ago and, the Speedway had so many on-going activities that biking was of no interest to them. Of course times change and, they might start considering other events like cycling but, that particular speedway - unlike many on the Nascar circuit - stays very busy. Hardly a day goes by without some engine roaring from there. A lot of testing takes place there, and not from just cup cars.

Lowe's/Charlotte Motor Speedway regularly hosts cycling events. Can't say about others. There was a MS 150 that started at Rockingham, stopped for the night in Darlington, then ended on Myrtle Beach.

Homestead Speedway in So. FL has opened its track up a few times as the opening and closing laps of organized rides.

Our own Tom Stormcrowe does a Tour de Cure at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I sure wish Daytona Int. Speedway would host something like this. I know a lot of testing takes place their but I am sure they have open dates where the facility could be used.
