Seems th first time I did the ride it was 10,000 ft. Next two times it was 9,800 ft. This time the patch says 9,000 ft!:eek:
Are the mountains shrinking or more accurate instruments?:rolleyes:

I may be over-thinking this, but when I start the ride I "set" the bike computer to current altitude, which it "knows" from barometric pressure. It senses differences in barometric pressure as changes in altitude.
If, however, the barometric pressure changes due to weather (like it did on The Bear this year) the bike computer gets all confused because it "thinks" the change is due to a change in altitude . . . which some of it is, but not all of it.
So, if there are dramatic changes in the weather during a ride, it can play with the accuracy of the altitude functions of the bike computer. That's my guess, anyway. I could be wrong!

He started out riding in a Low Pressure System and as he rode, he cycled right into a High Pressure System and Bingo . . . his altimeter went all funny :lol:.
I'm no meteorologist, so we should probably check with Jackie Johnson (who is really smart with weather stuff . . . I saw her on TV!).

My Garmin Training Center reports 10,194 feet elevation gain. The Garmin always exaggerates, so I'll guess thereabouts of nine grand.
