Fifty Plus (50+) - Bob Frederick

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm sure most of you saw the news of Bob Frederick's recent bicycle accident where he hit a pothole, crashed and sustained fatal head injuries.
My bicycle buddy's (who is recovering from cycling injuries) sister and brother-in-law work at KU and knew Bob well.
Watch out for those potholes folks.........

This is the sort of scenario under which I acknowledge that 'bent riders may have an edge over the rest of us.

The linked article has absolutely no details on the crash or the pothole or how it happened. Pothole crashes aren't usually fatal (I'm speaking from experience here).
Do you have details on how the crash happened? Was anyone with him at the time? The article sure leaves a lot of questions unanswered. It doesn't even say what type of bike he was riding (as John E. mentions, maybe it was a recumbent).

Oh geez! That must have been who my brother-in-law was talking about.
I had relatives in town last weekend for my son's wedding. My brother-in-law from Topeka told me about a close friend of his who hit a pot hole, endo'd, and landed on his head. I wasn't paying too close attention because my mind was on other things.

Didn't see any mention of whether he was wearing a helmet either. A real shame though. I don't even like hitting the slightest bump when going over 20mph, I imagine hitting a pothole could be awful.
