Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Today's utility ride

6.8 miles, to pick up: 4 lbs of sugar at the supermarket, a repaired sandal at the cobbler, a 2 oz sample jar of "haystack" yellow paint, a 2" wide sample paint roller, and a giant color fanpack from the local Benjamin Moore store.

The total time was slightly longer than driving, although it was much quicker to get moving on the bike compared with getting a car going, so the time penalty wasn't much.

I should do this sort of thing more. Too bad not a single store had any sort of bike racks, so I made do with trees.

Huh. I've done my usual 4+ miles to the local library. I'm going to go another mile downhill to the nearest shopping center for a late lunch/early dinner, but I've also got to stop at a Benjamin Moore store across the way for some kind of blue paint. (I've got a chip of the color, to see if they can match it.)

Then it will be 5m+ home, for ~10m round trip.

Good job. Many people live within just a few miles of the things they need and some if not many trips can be completed on a bike. Amazing how many times in years past I've driven to perform errands which could have easily been done on foot or by a bike.

But of course in years past I was in horrible physical condition and now I'm not. Saving money on gas ain't bad either.

CRAP. I noticed one of my 2 lb boxes of sugar has a leaky seam and spilled onto the chair in my office. Looking inside the bag for the bike...there's a 1/2 lb of sugar in the bottom! Well, at least I can save on Clif Shots for a while.
