Mountain - Plains - Oops... what did I get myself into?!!???!! (Horgan)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

A friend talked me into doing the Mike Horgan Hill Climb (http://www.boulderracing.com/Horgan.asp). Is anyone else here possessed of similar poor judgement?

It's my first race. Ever.

Not quite as bad since I came to my senses. I almost registered for the Bob Cook Memorial Hill Climb RR. Fortunately, I came to my senses just in time.

Nothing wrong with that route, but doing it as a race will be interesting.

I question my judgement in doing the Triple Bypass, not so much for the ride as the number of people out there. I tend to be a solo cyclist with no group riding skills.

Organized rides are easy to solo.
Everyone gets strung out and unless you look for a paceline you can easily do it solo.
E rock is huge and a tad more difficult. Even then I spend a good portion of the time alone.

i'm gonna do bob cook this year i think.

i rode it lat weekend and set a PR that would have put me in 6th place citizens for my age group last year so i thought why not. have some confidence i can shave another 5-10 min off that PR under race conditions/without a backpack/with better prep

it would also put me in 2nd to last in pro mens, so i'm keeping things in perspective

its funny though, my time to echo lake last weekend was 1h6m, and i just looked at the junior times and skyler trujillo, who rides for black sheep in fort collins won the junior (which only goes to echo lake) with a time of 47 minutes.

incredible.

Oh hey, I'm doing the TBP too. Just bought a registration of a club-mate.

We should organize a meetup for BF at the bar-b-q in Avon

I would love to, but there are potential complications b/c I am planning to do the ride & carpool with a couple of friends, and there's just no knowing how the timing and group-decision-making are going to play out.

check yer PMs in a moment.

(p.s., this needs it's own thread)

Thanks for the PM. I will start a thread for meeting up on the TBP later today.
