Folding Bikes - "Dahon" Boardwalk S1 is NOT from Dahon?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I purchased 2 2008 "Dahon" Boardwalk S1s from Performance Bike and received it today, after unpacking everything and setting it up, I noticed that it doesn't say Dahon anywhere. Not on the box, not on the bike. Then I noticed that the instruction booklet for one bike was a generic fold/unfold flyer for another bike, and the other was a Dahon Licensed Technology manual. I guess they packed the wrong booklet for one of the bikes.

So am I correct to assume that my "Dahon" Boardwalk S1 is not actually made by Dahon? I noticed that they had DLT Boardwalks for sale at other sites, but I avoided them as I thought that the ones that says Dahon Boardwalk were actually made by Dahon and of better quality.

Is the quality of this "Dahon" Boardwalk as good as the real thing? All I want is a cheap and simple folding bike I can keep around and use once in a while for years to come, and the Boardwalk S1 seems to fit the bill.

What's the deal? I feel a little cheated.

its made by Dahon
reason is that they sell Boardwalks also to non bicycle dealers like Boating world or RV Heaven or similar to that . They want to "protect" the dealers from those big outfits which usually do not give any service ...but try to undercut everybody with the price ....

Relax its a Dahon

I believe you got just what you wanted. Performance Bike is listed as an authorized Dahon dealer on the Dahon web site. There is a thread discussing "grey market" Dahon Boardwalks on the Dahon Rider Forum in the General Discussion section. See:

Thanks for the info! That's a relieve.

Now I just have to worry about actually testing out the bikes. The boxes came really banged up with holes and everything, but the plastic protectors for the clips really helped. Two of the plastic protectors were actually cracked, but I saw no visual damage.

All bike manuals are pretty general these days - mostly CYA warnings and some 'general' product info.

Things change too fast and it costs too much to update and re-print instruction books.
