Is there anyone here who's suffering from what the 'Canucks' call cabin fever? AKA winter depression?
In the past I've been contemplating to buy a strong full-spectrum light to remediate the situation.. in the midst of winter the sun sets at 1630h and rises after 900h am. No fun.. especially when most day are over cast :(
My cabin fever has been greatly diminished by continuing to exercise.. though I started too late, only in November (so gained over 5 kg in just 1 month)..
Do you still have cabin fever? Or have you never suffered from it?
I'd like to know!!!

I over came it by cross country skiing. I'd pack myself a lunch, grab a sketch book and head for the woods. It's kept me sane for many years now.

I suffer from the exact opposite, summer depression. There's been a few mornings this summer already when I've woken up at 5am to find the temperature was already pushing 30 deg C. Motivation to do anything is not easy on such days.

Yes, I tend to get a touch of the 'cabin fever'. It helps to keep up with exercise on a regular basis -- even if it's at the gym. I've been good about that lately, getting up there at least twice a week. Have to fit it in around work and other mundane things which sometimes contribute to the depression or whatever you would call it.
Yesterday was a fantastic day here in the Cleveland, Ohio area. We had temps around 55 deg. F, totally uncharacteristic for February here. I simply had to take advantage of it, so I went for a bike ride. It felt GREAT cruising along the Metroparks bike path. There were lots of other people out, too. There's nothing like a taste of spring to get the motivation going. Of course, today's weather calls for drastically dropping temperatures and rain changing to snow. Ah well.
I must say that reading the bikeforums posts helps keep my spirits up as well. :D
Yup! I've got cabin fever. Every week about, because during the week I'm stuck inside riding the trainer & lifting weights. But! During the weekend I finally get to get outside and hit the road. This weekend wasn't that great for me though, because I have a cold.
Yes well. Maybe next weekend will be more exciting.

Right on!
Actually, here in the Southern United States, winters are fairly short...BUT...
I spend 8 1/2 hours each day in a workplace with NO WINDOWS!
Summer, Winter, Spring, Autumn...ALL THE TIME!
I guess you know why I commute by bicycle!

Yes cabin feaver rages within me. I guess in the scope of things we have been very lucky this winter. I haven't had to "put my bike away" yet, but mother nature continues to taunt us. This morning it was warm enough to go for a good hour then snow in the afternoon. Who Knows? How many days till spring..............?
Cabin what?
There seems to be a lot of validity behind full spectrum lighting.
It's talked about quite a bit here amongst the granola and herbs.
