Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In case the link fails to work here is the copied text from the article from today's Sioux City Journal:
Spencer bicyclist hospitalized following collision with parked car
SPENCER, Iowa -- A Spencer bicyclist was sent to the hospital late Monday night after he ran into a parked car and went through its window, authorities said.
The accident occurred at 10:25 p.m. on West Third Street and Fourth Avenue, said Spencer Police Lt. Jim Berhow.
James Cadwell, 18, was riding east on Third Street when he hit the rear end of a Dodge Neon, went up over the trunk and into the back window, Berhow said.
An ambulance transported Cadwell to Spencer Municipal Hospital. His condition could not be obtained from the hospital.
The vehicle sustained $1,000 in damage, Berhow said.

Wither? What does wither mean?

It should say either. Couldn't correct the mispelling with the edit feature. For some reason you can correct the thread itself but not the title. BTW had you looked at your keyboard you would see the letter's "E" & "W" are next to each other & probably would have understood the mistake. At least it would have seemed easy to me to understand it had someone else wrote this thread.

On the other hand, I too thought the word used was "wither" until I read your correction. Having said that, I will now go and correct the title, now that I'm aware of what your intention was. I think it's a pretty easy mistake to make on both sides.

Good grief! At least he lived. A bicyclist was killed here in Eugene last Saturday at about 12:30 a.m., riding the wrong way on a one-way street, got hit by a car. The driver immediately stopped and called 911, but it was too late. The bicyclist was only 21 years old. I havent' heard yet if alcohol was a factor or if the guy was wearing a helmet or had lights on. Probably not, because it happened near the campus and a lot of the bikers in this area don't wear helmets or use lights at night.
Well, he COULD have had a headlight and on even and still run into a parked car. Many of the "headlights" are really more to make the cyclist visible then they are to illuminate hazards especially if you are riding at more then say 15 mph. At any kind of speed, it isn't that hard to "out run" the headlight. Sure, the headlight will illuminate the hazard but by the time you a) see it and b) react to it, you have c) hit the hazard. Given the fact that damage was sustained by the vehicle, this could have been the case.
Pat's right. I have a crappy little l.e.d. light from Trek that puts out so little light it's only good for riding on city streets that are lit. Waste of money on my part but I suppose it's the minimal compliance with the law.
[on edit] I should add that I have a Nightrider for real night riding/commuting.

This is just another example of why those idiot drivers should be forbidden from stopping and parking in our way! I for one have had enough!*
*Yes, this is a joke.
Or the cyclist was just mimicking the Saturn commercial currently running.

Back in the early 80's I hit a parked car in broad daylight. It was raining just hard enough that I had my head down to keep the rain out of my eyes. I was standing and pulling hard in top gear a few feet out from the curb and I knew there weren't any cross streets or driveways for a couple of blocks.
Suddenly the front bumper of a car comes into my line of vision - I knew I was dead - all I had time for was to kind of launch myself off the pedals hoping I could at least go over the car. When I hit I rotated stiff-armed over the handlebars, landed on my back on the hood and rolled into the street. Then I remembered the old Buick that had been parked there facing the wrong way on the street for weeks! :)
There was no damage to the car (one of those old real-steel behemoths), so I picked up my bike, looked around to see if anybody had seen me make an idiot of myself, and tried to ride away - only to discover that the front fork of my nice French road bike was bent back so far that the front wheel was jammed between the crank and chain rings.
Fortunately, I wasn't damaged except for slight scratch on my shoulder and a big dent in my ego :)
