Boonen goes down. The roads/white lines are eating everyone today.

Finished 16th.
I have no other contributions, I just want to point out that the podium girls were rather cute today.

Green Jersey just got tight.
Missed the end today, sounds like Millar got caught up to, people fell down, and THOR GOD OF THUNDER took the win. Sounds fun!

Question: Why was Cadel sprinting for the finish? Is he so frustrated he wants to get some Euro bonus for sprinting points now?

they said cavendish lost ground going up an incline near the end and lost sprinting position because of it. (from velonews live blog)

Anyone else think that white kits on a rainy day aren't quite the way to go?

Having ridden all day workin' in the rain I can see why he changed. God peeling that stuff off soaked to the skin. Makes ya feel like the captain on the deck of a ship though once you're wet and pumpin away.

Better the captain than the boatswain who gets washed overboard. :thumb:

washed overboard=crashing out OR being spit out the back?

Menchov loses another minute!

Watching it on stream Phil Liggett and company kept repeating that the consensus was that Cavendish couldn't hang in the little climb to the finish so it was opened up for other riders.

Looks like they are waiting til tomorrow to figure out what to do with Menchov.

shame that millar couldn't hold off the pack for a solo win. regardless of your feelings for his past transgressions,
he has historically been a opportunistic rider and stirred the pot with his breakaways.
good try and anticipate seeing him give it another go in a later stage.
at least hushovd and not cavendish won. nice to see the green jersey race tighten a little.

Most combative rider on a day gets 2,000 Euros. Stage winner gets 8,000. Going on a break like that doesn't get unrewarded, but Voeckler cleaned up the other day when he got both.

What's Voeckler make as a pro rider? Seems like that would be a huge chunk of his compensation (although I'd guess he got lots of endorsement $$ in France out of the time he spent in yellow back 5-6 years ago).

Don't know his salary. Must be respectable, seeing as he's wearing their team leader's number.
Many teams do split the prize money, but I imagine the details might vary from team to team.

My favorite image of stage 5 was seeing Voeckler look back several times and shake his head each time, almost in wonderment - as if to say "pinch me, I can't believe I'm winning this stage and the peloton is still away!"
