Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Can you use a Rear Hub as a Front Hub?

just a quick question.
as in take off all the gears, freewheel, reinstall the axle~ let me know. dont utfs please.

probably depends on the hub, and whether the hub is a 120, 126, 130, or 135mm.
as long as there is room to space down the axle to 100mm, then yes, you technically can, but i haven't seen it. my guess is that it won't work, but that's just a guess.

As long as the spacing fits, it should be fine.

But why?
It is often done on fat tire snow bikes. Surly Pugsleys are set up to do that, the idea being if the wheels are interchangeable front to back you can run a different size SS cog on each wheel plus disc brakes.
Front and rear axles tend to be of different diameters - yet another problem to overcome.
