Advocacy & Safety - I wonder how this will turn out

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I may have to see how this idea pans out
The motorist version of critical mass I guess.

You know, because the drivers have been persecuted for so long.

I just love how "cars will be forced to cross the double yellow lines on dangerous limited visibility roads".
I don't want to have a head on but oh god, I HAVE to fling myself into oncoming traffic to pass, theres no alternative!!!

Somebody shoot some video of the riders just riding casually around the "broken down" vehicle. Yes, I used singular "vehicle" because I wouldn't be surprised if only the flier's creator participates.

Motorist Mass? Motorists stage their own critical mass twice daily every weekday...
I'm not quite sure why motorists think it's ok to drive several abreast on city streets getting in my way and slowing me down on my way to work every morning...
It's not like they can't just pull over and let me pass and be on my way...

Apparently a motorist has had it with cyclists forcing him over the double yellow line in to on coming traffic and apparently they have never heard of the brake pedal and waiting for a safe opportunity to pass or requesting the road be improved to comfortably handle all users. So a flier is being circulated to encourage civil disobedience for motorist to block riders on the "Sunrise Century" in "celebration" of "Driver's Rights" ... to be a55 holes.

Auto traffic slows you down? You should really start watching some of Joeybike's videos.
waiting for a safe opportunity to pass
Off topic, but I've found that of the four people who've waited behind me on blind corners or hills this year, three were on cell phones (i think it makes them more patient, as they have something to think about besides the fact they're stuck going 5-15mph in a 45 zone).
Note also that only four motorists have waited behind me on blind corners or hills this year.

Actually I was kind of encouraged by the comments. In the past, it was usually 100% driver circle jerk, piling on the cyclists and everyone patting each other on the back to see how vile they can be towards anyone not in a car.
Now it seems the cyclists are finally jumping into the fray rebutting the tired old cliche arguments that inevitably make their way into the comment section (taxes, cyclists don't obey the laws etc.) .
I doubt any minds were changed but at least some misconceptions about the single file law were brought to light.

Doing a car CM is every bit as dumb as a cycle CM.

Says the guy who won't bike (and instead drives and gets all holier-than-thou when someone criticizes him for it) in weather hotter than 85F. You are one bizarre teenager.

There used to be an organization that protested 55mph speed limits by driving 55.

Never underestimate the power of stupidity, especially in numbers. But still, will be quite easy for the cyclists to go around the drivers. If they aren't broken down AND are still blocking the road, I think that the police might be interested in THEM causing disruption.

 I wouldn't more than 20 rides in per year with that logic over here.

you need to get one 55mph driver per lane. But then people can pass on the shoulder. Takes a number of people to actually block the average interstate.
I thought the comments by the cops were interesting. They get a number of calls per day complaining about cyclists, probably riding legally. Makes me wish I called the cops every time I was assaulted by a motorist. I've had some days the cops would probably ask me to stop calling.
...stand up for their right to drive by disrupting a bike race next month.
Gee, I had no idea there was a "right to drive... "

Yes, in jest... driving is a licensed privilege that can be revoked.
Too bad many motorists don't realize that... Of course far too many judges apparently don't understand it either.

my favorite line:
If you can't figure out how to pass a small, slow moving bicyclist, perhaps it's time to re-examine your ability to operate a motor vehicle competently and safely.
Yes, in jest... driving is a licensed privilege that can be revoked.
Given how only 4 or 5 time DUIers get licenses revoked, I can imagine why they think it's a right.

Yeah that gets right back to why I included judges in my earlier statement... somehow in our society it just seems too difficult to actually take someone's license away in spite of a history of repeat offenses.
Frankly if one is involved in a DUI they should lose their license for at least a year; repeat offenses should yield a revoked license. A motorist directly involved in the death of a vulnerable road user should also lose their license forever. But neither of the above is likely to happen as driving is treated as a right, not a privilege.

I especially liked the line in the flier about how drivers are "forced" to cross double yellow lines in order to pass cyclists.
