I'm considering a set of Bontrager Race Lite road wheels and I haven't yet upgraded my 8 speed to a 9 speed. The cassette is nearly new...

1. Is there an adjustment to fit the 8speed cassette on the rear hub?

2. Do I have to upgrade just the cassette in order to put on these wheels?

8/9spd are fully compatible, nothing is required for a 8spd hub on a 9spd wheelset.

Oh so cool! I read that on an old archive and just wanted to confirm that this is still true for Shimano parts.

When 8-speed came out, they made the freehubs wider then 7-speed, but when they came out with 9 speed, they just made a cassette of the width, but with narrower cogs and cog spacing. Same goes with 10-speed. That is, we're talking about Shimano.
