I'm in my first tri Saturday. Sarted training February 1 after deciding to get off the couch and take ownership with my life and health.

Swimming - ok, needs improvement but can do the short course doing ok. Not ready for a 70.3 (yet). It's next summer's goal

Running - not a problem - doing a 5k in ~24".

Riding - I've been riding a 20 year old Trek 1200 with aero bars that was given to me by friend and adding parts here and there. Trained with another friend Sunday and got my butt kicked but then again, he was riding a P3. Talked it over with my family who agreed that I should buy a new ride. Walked into my LBS Monday and ordered a 2009 Trek Equinox 7 - Chi Red - only needs a couple of bottle cages.

At 42, this is not a profession that I'll make a living at. I wish that I had gotten this attitude 20 years ago but C'est la vie.

I'm down over 40 pounds and have a new outlook on life. I appreciate everyone on the forums for their suggestions and ideas.

I'll try and write a review on the Equinox in a couple of weeks.

Many thanks.

A 5K in 24 seconds! That's impressive :D ' is the symbol for arcminutes, so its carried over to time ;)

Hope you enjoy the bike, and more so, hope you really enjoy the race!

Congrats! 40 lbs since February is pretty impressive, and so are 24 minute 5k times. Sounds like you're doing well and enjoying your new hobby.

Post some pics of your new bike when it arrives, and have fun breaking it in.

Also, good luck this weekend! Sounds like you are more than prepared.
