Garate looked like he was on the verge of puking for all of the last 30 minutes and still he hung on... what a magnificent effort.

Did you notice Martin's eyes? It looked like they were rolling up into his head.

Why didn't they do this why didn't they do that yada yada yada. I tell you what go find a one hour climb go up as hard as you can into a headwind and rattle off some sprint intervals every minute or so. After you have done all that try it again after 3 weeks of riding everyday through mountains at a race pace. Please report your findings. I suspect you will have your answer.

They suffer to they are just faster.

in his prime lance forged alliances by crushing his opposition. mig did the same thing.

Astana was definitely the strongest team but they would not have won the tour without alberto contador, which most of us knew waaay before the race ever started.

Oh yes. You were so clairvoyant before the race started

Ouch (from the link above):

"lance will be almost 38 by TDF time. the last "old" guy to win the TDF was bjarne riis and i believe he was 35. when riis won i recall seeing a list of the ages of all the TDF champs and i remember only a couple of guys had won who were older than riis.

now, i know lance is "different". he did afterall win the TDF an unprecedented seven times in a row.

but i think even if he races he has a better chance at DNF than cracking the top 10 .

It looked like he died but forgot to fall.

Yes, it's odd that many people who are critical of Lance are silenced.

Other than saying they're haters, I agree with you.

You mean all of us who said he wouldn't finish in the top ten?

For various reasons, I was doubting he'd finish in the top 30. The explanation of those reasons doesn't seem to be welcome here so, I won't get into it.

Coming into this a day late (watching on DVR), but I don't get how folks can see today's stage as boring. This was friggin' AWESOME!!! Wow. What a rush.
