Training & Nutrition - What diet should a cyclist follow?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I am starting on a new diet this week, but wanted to know what other cycist eat. I used to eat allmost nothing but carbs. Pasta, bread, cereal, etc. I think I need more meat. This week I have been eating chicken breast for launch and dinner. With veggies and two slices of bread. What would you recomend for good health and nutrition for cycling? I eat alot of apples and pears too.
Sounds like you are on the right track.I just eat a balance of protein/carbs and fats trying to include some healthy forms of each in each meal.I also try to eat plenty of fruits and vegies and pretty much adjust my grain consumption to my activity level in an attempt to keep my muscles topped with glycogen(no more no less)

Suggest any pasta, bread, etc. be whole grain. Slow cook oatmeal (5 minutes), whole wheat bread, whole grain pasta, whole grain rice, yams instead of potatoes.
