Road Cycling - Riding pain

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi all,
I have developed a day after ride ache in my (for want of a better description) nuts. Its nothing sinister as I have had it checked out. Therefore it seems to be a biking issue. I am now riding a whole lot more recently as I have joined a club and am putting more mid week miles in now as opposed to weekends only. My question is, should I be looking at tilting my saddle forward or back to try and help.
Thanks
If your shorts aren't too tight  then check the saddle angle. It should be very close to horizontal. You should also check the fore/aft position. If it's too far back your "nuts" may be getting squeezed because you're sitting on the nose of the saddle.
Also check the height of the saddle relative to the handlebar. You may be leaning over a lot more than you realize.
You can also try rearranging your "package" ;) so there's less pressure on anything.

This might sound silly, but sometimes tilting the seat up takes pressure off your balls because it throws a lot of the weight back to your bum bones.
I had a similar problem years ago, and solved it by cutting a huge hole in the chamois

Thanks. Thats what I sort of suspected. The obvious mistake I wanted to avoid was doing what seems logical and angling down maybe making things worse. I am an Englishman and its always nice talking to an AUssie who doesn't mention our Cricket team !!

Well, a few of the local sports guys are worried that the "POMS" are improving a bit too much. While I'm at it, I'm staggered that Johnny Wilkinson has been crowned King of England yet. :)
Tilting the seat back (a little) is not for everyone -- I'd suggest trying a slight forward tilt just to see how it feels. Seat tilting will most likely mean you'll have to adjust the height too. In my opinion, the only way to take heaps of weight off your crotch is to transfer A LOT of weight to your hands by tilitng the seat way forward, which I've tried, and is predictably comfortable, but better than not riding at all.
The next obvious question is: what type of seat is it?

I had a really bad Selle royal seat which came as standard on my Cannondale, I have just bought a Selle Italia Prolink genuine gel saddle which I tried on some of the other blokes bikes at my club and it seems a lot better. I am riding with it for the first time tonight and just wanted to make sure it was bang on in the right position.
Apologies in advance for the off topic cricket talk.
Steve Harmison and Matthew Hoggard are breathing new life into our cricket team. But I still wouldnt fancy them against you boys just yet. A 3-0 whitewash against the Kiwis recently probably didnt have you Aussies too upset ! Wilko's not played an international since the WC, and England are getting used to losing again.
Probably just a saddle angle issue but keep an eye out for swelling one one side. Probably not an issue, but you can get what's called torsion. Usually occuring in younger kids or after trauma. If one side swells up, see a Dr immediatly.

I reckon Harmison's quick. Last time he was out here he had a couple of spells where he was bowling around 95 mph! I've heard he has since improved.

Yes they have Harmison as the best test bowler in the world at the moment, but he needs to play the Aussies or India to really get true measure. He is not bowling up at those speeds at the moment but his length and line has improved and he is really dangerous now.
I ran with the new saddle last night on about a level angle and things seen a whole lot better, truly money well spent. The pain happened most on my previous saddle after I tried to improve things myself and clearly made the mistake of a slight tilt forward.
Thanks for all the advice
