Hi guys I'm new to posting but every time i google a bike question it sends me here so ive assumed this is a leading bike forum that has so far given me great advice. Earlier I looked through the forum to check which kind of rim tape/strip i should use and everyone seems to recommend velox cloth rim tape which i have decided to use but im new to building bikes and so i have velocity deep v rims, also recommended by this forum, but the width is 19mm but velox sells only 10mm, 17mm, 22mm width rim tapes and i was wondering should i go with the 17mm and be a little narrow or go in excess and get 22mm?
thanks in advance for the help!

Use Stan's 21mm yellow tape, and not only will it be fine for regular tires and tubes, you can also then mount Road Tubeless if you like.

Velox 17 mm tape works best on virtually all road rims. 22 mm is pretty much only useful for relatively wide mountain bike rims. The 10 mm width is all but useless. It's intended for single wall rims that have a narrow "rut" down the middle.

Rim tape works best when it covers the entire rim from flange to flange. That way it can never migrate to one side and expose a spoke hole. If you can feel it "snap" between the hook beads, that's prefect.

Don't measure your rim at the edge. DeepVs are 19mm outside to outside, measure just the spoke bed width inside.

The 22mm also is what you'd want if you had Mavic A719 rims - as are common on loaded-touring bikes, tandems, and a certain very fast and funky hybrid I know of...
