Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Frames built in the USA

There've been one or two other posts about this, but I'm hoping people might know of some more options. I'm looking for a steel frame with horizontal dropouts. It doesn't have to be a custom frame built to my specs or made by a private frame builder, I just want it to be made in this country. Do any of the bigger bike companies still make certain models here? Or, are there any private frame builders in the US who make frames in the $600-700 range?

BMW is a popular choice, I'm looking into that. People have also suggested IRO, but they don't actually weld their frames here, think they're from Taiwan. Anybody know of others?

EDIT: I also asked my LBS and they don't know of anybody in the area within my price range.

Most companies doing framebuilding in the USA are doing custom work rather than stock sizing.

dropouts allow the wheel to drop out.

If we're going by queerpunk's definition, I prefer trackends to dropouts.

Also, MY PRICE RANGE IS $600-700, the suggestions so far cost double and triple that amount. I can bend my budget a little but...help me out, I said $700, not $1500.

Soma is located in the USA. Not sure if they get their frames welded overseas like IRO or not though.

I have that Cream City and it's a great frame I love the way it rides and like Queerpunk said it sounds like it's exactly what you are looking for.

Spicer makes some really nice full custom steel frames for $1000. It's a little more than you wanted to spend but you would get exactly what you want in a frame. And I think they may do some semi-custom options that are a bit cheaper too. And have a stock frame for $675 that is US made.

Gunnar and Curtlo can both make off the shelf/custom geo bikes. Curtlo does not list a specific ss/fg bike but its a matter of putting on different dropouts unless you want actual pursuit or sprint geo.

We've been experimenting with different coatings. This coating is dubbed the MMT Coating by Secoa Technologies. This coating is less then .002" thick and spec'd for military weapons, so you know it'll take some abuse. It is a high temp cured powder with titanium powder additive, has good chemical and corrosion resistance, good to very good salt spray, UV and weather resistance, has anti-stick properties and good wear and abrasion resistance. It's natural color is a semi-gloss "ship grey".

Basically powdercoat on PCP and steroids. I like.

'93 cannondale track is the way to go.

Has to be actually made by him. Not the same geometry as the kilo/khs. The spicer has steeper angles.

That, or it's made offshore and shipped to him, and he markets and sells them. But if this is the case, it' still his design.

Ben's Cycle sells the Orange One steel frame with trackends for $529 (fork included). It's made in the USA and it's semi-custom: you don't get custom fit but there's a lot of other made-to-order options like braze-ons, custom colors, etc. The geometry is closer to a road bike than track, but some people don't mind that. In terms of custom-fit bikes handmade in the USA, so far I haven't found anybody who beats Sanner Cycles in the pricing game. $500 for a frame ($660 with fork) is an unbelievable value for a bike made to your own specs and measurements.

I built up a Milwaukee Orange One this winter and I love it. $519 for the frame (without fork), True Temper Verus tubes, any color under the sun, light & responsive, more of a road geometry, best of all - manufactured by Waterford in Wisconsin. Absolutely no regrets - call Steve at Ben's Cycles and he'll set you up.

He made up a few "stock" type builds with lugged and a mix of turbing and brought them to my Continnum Cycles in nyc. They were in your price range and I understood that he is trying to do more frames this way.
