I ride almost every morning from oakland down to Hayward Bart to catch the AC transit bus over the San Mateo bridge to my work in Foster city. I really don't mind all the riding, it's a pretty good way to start the morning and I love not having to deal with traffic.

But tough times have hit and I can't afford the $116 ticket anymore. In fact, AC Transit is raising the price to $132 in July. It's bad enough that I have to pay $116 a month just to cross a stupid bridge (I'd ride over that sucker if they'd let me...) But now it's probably going to be just as much to drive my car over the bridge every day!

What's a biker to do?! Does anyone know of any bike shuttles that pick people up and ferry them across? Anyone want to start a carpool with bike racks? We could take advantage of the carpool lane (is THAT still free??)

Have you asked your employer to see if they will subsidize your public transportation?

Good luck, I used to have the opposite commute, Foster City to Union City. Most of the time I took the Duc but I would sometimes pedal via the Dumbarton. It wasn't quick.

My work used to pay for caltrain passes and bart fare. Not anymore. Seems there's really only two people in the entire office that bike to work and the rest either live in town or don't mind driving. *sigh*
