I can't believe this thread is still active - and just a relevant as the first day it was posted!

Forgive me for being a selfish slob, but I don't have that many things - aside from cycling - that make me feel good. After waiting for summertime all damned winter and spring, it's killing me that an entire summer month has passed - and a new one has begun - with less than a handful of days suitable for any kind of outdoor activity.

Isn't there someone we can write to about this? What's President Obama DOING, anyway? http://www.bikeforums.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

Well technically it's been a soggy end to spring and soggy start to summer, but I too am waiting for a drier spell of weather once I get back north from the south Jersey shore. I brought my bike with me and have had a good time riding along the shore and checking out the NJ shore towns. No climbing to speak of but the winds keep your legs honest which I've enjoyed. The weather's been really nice fortunately with only yesterday being the day the sky dumped water on me.

I wish we could draw a very large shroud over the island...

I have resorted to riding my 89 GT Passage with the nice new treaded tires. (really makes me appreciate my OCR). The seat post rack diverts most of the water from the rear. I have been able to get in a 20 miler ...I get soaked most nights. I have been soaking down the chain and and stuff with chain lube and wiping down the rest. The old school foam grips are saturated as are all my sneakers. I have been putting my cell phone in a ziploc baggie. I refuse to let this wet spell ruin me.
One thing that has worked well in the rain are the red and white LED flashy "frogs" ..I think the 4 wheelers do notice them.

the most I've done in the past 3 weeks is a 25 mile ride in the fog on tuesday. I biked to an appointment on wednesday and it was fine, but by the time i had to head back it was wet and horrible, and made for one of the worst 8 mile rides i've had yet.

I still try to get some riding done between rain showers. Now that my stationary bike is broken I don't really have many options if I want to get in some quality riding time. I've had to race home a few times because these storms come out of nowhere sometimes. It's not a good feeling when you're miles from home and the skies suddenly darken and you can just smell the rain coming.

July 3rd, more rain expected... July 4th looking good though. I'll try to get a ride in today, if only in Prospect Park, but I already have other plans for the 4th.

Woke up super early, got in about 40miles, got home before 9AM and before any hint of rain. Plenty of time to spend the rest of my day off eating and drinking and celebrating our Independence...oh it's tomorrow you say? That makes it two days I get to celebrate! Woohoo!

Went out for a MTB ride on some local trails that aren't very heavily used. I figured they'd be wet in places. I was wrong. It was like riding in a creek. I got around the inner loop (maybe 5/6 miles) because I kept thinking I would find some dry trail on the higher areas. Skipped the outer loop. Lots of downed trees -- clearly has been hardly ridden this year.

Rain stopped long enough this afternoon to go out for a leisurely 17 miles on the road (I had to return a DVD anyway). So much rain. I should be kayaking.

I was down in Wildwood Crest with the family, had a great time! I rode around the surrounding towns and got up to Ocean City, then rode around the Cape May area which was really nice. A well rounded vacation with plenty of time for family and riding.

OK - I pronounce this thread officially dead. I've ridden a total of over 225 miles the last 5 days and the weather this weekend was spectacular. Weather this coming week looks great. Enjoy!

I'm confused by the weather reports of the coming week: they keep going between, "Clear all week" and "Rain during the middle."

YES !! THIs is what I've been asking myself also. The answer I've come up with is : He's mortgaging our Grandchildren's future. Al Sharpton is starting to look good by comparison.

Compared to the Caribbean? Incorrect.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy local beaches but it's not quite the same.

YEP YEP YEP.

Im not a sun worshiper by any means but Our weather in upstate NY has been AFU for sure.

It started with The NYC 5 bourrows tour and for the most part hasnt stopped raining yet.

just this past week July 3 4 5 6 7 Rain off and on (sometimes very heavy) we might get a break today

I went trout fishing on sunday (after the rain)The river I fish when Im at the camp is usually borderline too low this time of year well I cant even wade it!!!

commuting is out as I wake up and thunderstorms are loomming ,its already raining or its windy enough for an americas cup race , it would be ok if I was a townie but my commute is 17 miles one way and out in the boonies for most of the ride! not good with lightning along the river, the 3 times I rode to work in late june 2 of the rides home were in major thunderstorms!

Good thing I decided not to dock the boat this season, we would have had the chance to use it Maybe 3 times since early june , that would be a huge waste of $$. most of my friends at the marina I was at have only been out 3 /4 times at best ., there just using the boats for camps and staying at the docks.

UPDATE: 2.5 hours after my initial post above YEPPERS ITS RAINING !!! 1:35PM tropical style downpour (again).

YUK all I can say!!!

"John" rain drops keep falling on my head!!! "J"
