I was looking at my wife’s equestrian helmet. Each vent has screening covering the spaces. The screen is not on the inside of the helmet or the outside, but sandwiched in the middle. I think that this would be a great improvement for bicycle helmets.

Has anyone ever seen a bike helmet with screened vents?

What do you think of this idea?

Why has the bicycle industry not picked up on this design?

Why haven't bike helmet makers picked up on this idea?

Probably because the chance of getting a welt-raising bite from a big ol' horsefly is a lot lower on a bike than on a horse.

Rudy project has the screen.

Rudy project has the screen.I'm going to have to take a look at that one.

Caloso, that may be true of others but with all the bug spray my wife uses on her horse, I get more bugs than she does. The other thing is when a bee gets stuck in my helmet it can be very dangerious at 20 mph.

Not sure if it's sold in the US. It's the F1 ayron.

Some other manufacturers use them too, but many of the helmets are not sold in the US. Check out the Las Haxial (www.pinkjersey.com and www.competitivecyclist.com). I believe that many of the top models of helmets in Europe use them, can't really understand why they don't here....

Well, I stand corrected. I was being snarky but it looks like this is a real issue, at least for the European helmets.

BTW: That Rudy Project is a snappy looking lid.
