Northern California - Are the slowpoke rides no more?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been out of circulation for a couple of months since going back to school. But this summer, I'm just taking 1 class so I should have some time for riding. Any plans for slowpokes?

This time of year I think everyone is pretty busy with organized rides...centuries and what not:)

Still on the docket - we've just been busy with vacations, work, and other assorted/sundry stuff. Actually, Rich and I were discussing this last Saturday while suffering on the Canyon Classic.
What are you doing Sunday? :D

The Davis Bike Club still has "No Drop" rides, if that helps.

Maybe it would be a good time for a slow-as-molasses-so-dad-can-keep-up ride to Steady Eddy's?... ;)

Yeah, they'll be happening again. Maybe. if BBM and I can ever get off our duffs.
Of course, if you want to do a shout-out and set one up, t'ain't nobody gonna stop ya . . . . :innocent:

I'm interested but this summer is booking up and I need to get some miles in beforehand. The two Davis rides we had last summer were a lot of fun...

What if I set up a ride and no one shows up? My fragile ego can't handle the rejection and it would drive me to eat ice cream causing more weight gain and the need for slow poke rides and then the cycle would start up all over again. Long story short, I'm a follower when it comes to cycling. ;)

I'd love to do a ride in Davis, Rushfan. The one that I did do with you guys was fun even if I had to bail early.
Joel, your rides sound pretty challenging and some day I'll join you. I'm not up to your level right now.

Ok, I'm game. Let's start playing with dates. I'm open on Sunday, July 12, Saturday the 18th, or Sunday the 19th. Next realistic open weekend date for me is August 15 or 16.
Joel, t4mv, BBM, BS, taxi777, Dan?
Once we have a date, we can talk route.

I'm doing a ride from Orinda to "Who knows?" at 9am on my fixed gear, so if you see someone riding by on a Taxi bike in NorCal kit muttering to themselves...that would be me!

OK, I think I can make the 18th. Is this going to be slo-poke, or no drop, or will legs be ripped off on the 10 mi TT course?... :twitchy:

Sounds like the 18th is good.
cantdrv55-since this was your idea, is that a good day for you?
I have enough time to get some miles in so if it's a normal Yolo County ride, whatever you want to do.
Next question-what route and how long?
If we want to go easy, that ~45 mile loop to Lake Solano from the first ride is fine.
If we want it a little harder, Cantelow/Pleasants Valley Road from the second ride would be good.
If Joel wants to go crazy, he's welcome to Mighty Mix.
Any other ideas? Preferences?

We could do a Gordon Valley loop then from our house. That's about 42 miles. We could tack on a Winters loop to Steady Eddies back to our house and that would be around 60. If anyone wants to climb we could do Cantelow one way, both ways, or tie in Stieger or Mix canyon or Seven Sisters. We could meet at our house if anyone is interested. We have flats, or climbs or a mixture. Roads or good and we could do a potluck at our house afterwords.

Another idea might be to start at your house and head up Pleasants Valley to Winters, then to Davis along Putah Creek Road and Russell, then come back. Or Vacaville-Davis-Winters-Vacaville.
Or Gordon Valley, haven't been there in a while. Just hate that stretch along 80. I drive that almost every day....

The 18th is my Mom's b-day so maybe we can ride early? Not a bad idea to get started while it's still cool out especially if we're going to be in Vacaville. I can do a 45 miler by then but not sure about Cantelow. If everyone else is going to do that climb, I won't wimp out....much.

Let's do Gordon Valley/meet at cgallagh's or Rockville Bike Shop? Or, ride from Fairfield to Lake Solano and back? If those routes are too far west for you Sac folks, we can do the UCD to Vacaville ride again.
It's on my calendar now.
Whatever route we do, Steady Eddy's is a MUST for a lunch break.

Every Sunday the DBC runs from Davis to Winters and back (so I'm told). It's starting at 9:30 AM (the DBC website shows 11 AM but I was advised that it is changing as of tomorrow) at Starbucks off of W. Covell Blvd at Hwy 113, next to Sutter Hospital (all rides begin at the Starbucks, 2038 Lyndell Terrace, (38.562 Lat; 121.768 Long) across from Sutter Davis Hospital in West Davis.), goes to Winters and back. It's touted as a "No Drop" ride.

If we meet in Davis, my vote is for Route 2.
Since it's a Saturday, we could meet somewhere other than at Central Park then head out. In keeping with the Slow Poke theme, possibly post ride at Burgers and Brew. Had a very tasty Niman Ranch burger and Chimay beer (on tap) for Father's Day...

Just to confuse everyone, here is another route. This can be done easily, is different than the routes proposed (have been done as slowpokes), and is scenic and fun. We can meet at our house and finish there. If anyone wants we can do a potluck or grill something and have some cold beverages at my house. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Gordon-Valley-Winters-Loop

I never turn down anyone's hospitality if I can help it. Logistically though, how do we store our BBQ stuff there? Before the ride I suppose but do you have a big enough fridge to store our stuff or should we plan on bringing our own coolers?

Dude, Technology and planning are wonderful things. We have a few weeks to get this together and I am sure we can figure something out. If we decide to do it, it will happen. Usually Potlucks consist of someone bringing a dish to share. I will supply the meat. You guys can bring other stuff and drinks. You can park at my house, put your stuff in my fridge or coolers, ride, then voila. No problems. Let's see how this plays out before finalizing the plan and worry about whether anyone will play.
