I just traded for a 82 (I think) schwinn traveler with the intent of making it a single speed commuter. The front and rear der. and downtube clampon shifters are Suntour AR. Would these be worth hanging onto for a randonneur type build? I know that certain suntour components are pretty desireable and these actually do shift very nicely.

They are nice and reliable derailleurs. Nothing super special. I just bought a front and rear AR, used, for $10, for a road bike that I am working on.

Do keep them and clean them up. The AR-series were mid-level Suntour - which means they work very well indeed. And your 1982 time-frame is spot on. I had AR's on my old Motobecane Grand Touring - may it rest in peace (a ditz ran me over). And I bought one new for my funky old mountain-bike. They worked great! And I still have the one from my mtn-bike. As well as a near-mint condition Shimano Biopace triple crankset....

It is a pretty nice looking bike, though a bit heavy. Tiawan made 4130 frame. Charcoal grey with a pale grey head tube and green decals. Alloy 27 inch wheels. It will make an easy single speed conversion. There are no braze on's, even the rear derailleur hangar is bolted on. I will probably swap out the handlebars for some aluminum Modelos that I have. Those 1 1/4 inch tires are comfy!
