I just pulled apart the bb on my mid-80's raleigh with the intention of overhauling the thing. Taking it apart actually went very smoothly. But I did not find what I had hoped and expected to be in there. Instead of finding cones and cups, I seem to have integrated cone/cup units, which seems really strange to me. I took out the non drive side fine, and the spindle came out. I would just try leaving these things as is, but they really need to be cleaned and regreased. To even get to the drive side bearings, I would have to remove that entire side. Needless to say, this is a huge PITA.

Any insights? The intgrated cone/cups are stamped "Hatta Japan Pre-Lube". It doesn't seem like I can get the bearings out w/o destroying the unit, i.e. it seems like it was machined as one piece, though I am tempted to try prying it apart.

Those are roller bearings, I don't remember mine looking as though it could be pried apart. The one I had came out without removing both sides. I just soaked the whole works in Carb Cleaner and blew it out with compressed air.

Thanks. I kind of figured they shouldn't be taken apart. I was confused because I hadn't heard of them, and a guy at the LBS thought thye were dust caps. I thought he had no clue what he was looking at.
