Eastern Canada - I'm in Ottawa Jun29 - Jul 14: road bike rental?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi
I'm visiting my brother in Ottawa for a couple of weeks, and would like to spend a few mornings each week exploring the local areas by bike...
Firstly, can anyone recommend somewhere I can rent a roadbike ?
Secondly, is anyone here interested in showing me around?
Looking to do 2-3 hour rides at avg 28-32km/h ... the more climbing the better (slower, of course ;)).
Perhaps I could tag onto a sunday club ride or something ?
Thanks :-)

Hi there,
Have you checked the Ottawa Bicycle club? Here is their website: http://www.ottawabicycleclub.ca/ They have regularly scheduled rides for Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday evenings among other events. As far as renting a bike here is the website for a bike rental place located right in the heart of the city near Paliament Hill and the Rideau Canal: http://www.rentabike.ca/
Unfortunately I am not really the right person to ask about doing any 3 hour rides at 30kph....I ride an old heavy steel frame speed "hybrid" style bike around the city. I don't have a light road bike anymore. I am not sure where you will be staying while you are visiting but the city has a very good bike path network and you can basically ride around all day on any of the bike paths we have here. I am sure if you get in touch with the Ottawa Bicycle club you will find some folks you can ride with.
Hope you enjoy your stay!

Really not sure about bike rentals in Ottawa, but you will need to visit Gatineau Park on the Quebec side of the river while you are here (hiking, road biking, moutain biking):

I believe they still close the roadway/parkway to motor vehicles on Sundays from 9am to 1pm as well, which makes it even nicer for cycling.
Lots of hills.
Enjoy your stay!
