Hello, I am new to biking. I noticed most of the photos and trailers on the net are for two kids. Do they make them for just one kid? I want to get one for my 2 year old, but would rather have a compact trailer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Burley Solo and Cougar Chariot I both come to mind immediately. I believe Trek makes a single person version. There are probably others as well.

The same three I'd recommend.

Good luck finding that good price...

We have a 4 year old Cougar II and we love it to death. The engineering is simply fantastic and they seem to have thought of everything. The newer models are even better!

Despite much searching, we could not find a used one and we had to bite the bullet to buy a new one at REI. It was worth it. The trailer is currently hauling its 3rd kid with less than expected signs of wear.

Have fun!

The Cougar ones look like they are built well from the pictures. Thanks for the advice. Also, thanks for reminding me to check out REI. They have great prices and sales sometimes. Maybe I can get one when it is on sale.

We also bit the bullet for a cougar 1 from REI. Despite the price it is well worth it and I would spend the money again. We had an older trek we used with our first son (now 5), but it was still too big for our 7 month old. While I was very happy with the trek there is truly no comparison.

One thing I would recommend (if the price is not an issue) is to get the 2009 model. They changed how the front flap is secured. It is now done with hooks. Prior to this year it was secured with Velcro. In a lot of the research I did prior to buying ours (a 2009) several people commented they had significant issues with the Velcro keeping the flap secured after the trailer was one year old.

Thanks for the small details! I love the way the cougar looks. I just have to save up some money for it.

As long as you are lookin'....
check out the Chariot CX1, which I can heartily recommend. Complete side ventilation assures your little one will be comfortable and cool on those long summer rides. I don't know of any other carrier that has that feature and I use it all the time.

And yes, definitely buy during an REI sale (20% off) and use your membership for that added savings in way of dividends. When REI has their annual clearance sidewalk sales there are sometimes Chariots available, but they are far and few between. But you can easily find the accessory kits to go with the kit at those sales!

GL!

I noticed our newest burley (replacing the older one that got crushed in a garage collapse) has a lot of chariot features, including those hooks, which are outstanding. Actually most of the changes from the old burley to this one I don't like, but those hooks are great.
