Triathlon - Why am I posting on BF Tri forum at 6am?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Because I am up for a Triathlon today but thanks to the monsoon going on here in NY I thought "is this really wise?" I feel like such a wuss, but honestly its a sprint tri and I have nothing to prove (did this one last year), was just hoping to get another in before my big race (NYC) in July.

But its like heavy driving rain out there, I met up with my friend who was supposed to drive in together with me (we both couldn't call eachother... had to meet, neither guy wants to be the one that suggests we DON'T GO! Macho-manisim), both looked at eachother, and the rain, and said f'this! Plus if its even going on the swim will probably be canceled because this beach is always closed in heavy rain due to bacteria. (also I only paid $20 to enter this one!)

Ok I'm justifying my wimpiness but man its crazy out there!

Good call. Wet roads combined with lots of cyclists drastically raises the risk level for a crash and an injury that would jeopardize your A race.

I just looked at the results, over 700 people showed for the tri and 60 for the du... I'm thinking WTF, it must have just about cleared up when the race started. I'm about 40 minutes south of the race site so it is possible, down here it was still a monsoon through the end of race time. There was about 15 DNFs.

That said i still stand behind my decision, I have just over a month till NYC which is what I'm really in for, if this race was on a decent day no problem, but the risk of bacteria, and crashes, plus overall misery makes me not regret blowing it off... But i still feel like a wimp!

EDIT: Checked again looks like they cancelled the swim and made it a duathlon.... now I definitely don't regret it....

We lucked out on ours on Saturday (6/20). Rain started to come down around 10:30. By then the sprint have been long done. Didn't stop the swells on the Atlantic to come out and party with us though.

That's cool that is was only $20. I wish they'd have some in my area for that price.

well it was only $20 to the first 200 people that signed up in the first week after last years race that had done the race before. Next year they jacked it to $35 though, still a great deal!
