I've ordered a 2009 fuji touring and i'm getting it ready for a trip through the rockies. I was just wondering if anybody knew about the compatability of the cheap Fuji BB and the Tiagra FD with something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=380127392265
The stock BB is a 113mm square taper but what about issues with the derailler.

okay i see now that it's a powerspline. My crankset has to be powerspline compatable, right?
Welcome to the forums :)
I take it you want lower gearing, it's pretty common as not many people need a 30/42/52 and a 11-32 for touring, let alone any other riding but racing!
You're on the right track, but the crank you list would not be recommended for you, as the chainrings are steel, riveted and not replaceable.
Your bike, is this it? http://www.fujibikes.com/Specialty/Touring/Touring.aspx It says its a ST(square taper) BB.
Sugino makes nice cranks, just not that model. You'd do best with their better model, like this: http://www.velo-orange.com/suoldlotr.html It would fit using the 113BB you have. Your FD will likely work.
I see there is one on ebay too, but it will likely go for about the same price:http://cgi.ebay.com/Sugino-Forged-XD2-Crank-Set-NEW_W0QQitemZ370217932730QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item5632b557ba&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

ah, thank you. I just needed a push in the right direction. I'm new to bike mods and this site has been my classroom. It's really quite addictive. Thank you again.

For real world road touring you need a Triple 50-39-24
You will find the 52-42-30 too high.

The Sugino XD 600 (46,36,26) worked well for us, but we eventually replaced the 26 with a 24. I rode coast to coast with the 26 and it was fine. A few places in the Appalachians I would have used the 24 if I had it. The 26 was completely adequate (for me at least) for the TA in the Rockies. My companions had and used the 24 in both the Rockies as well as in the Ozarks and the Appalachians.
Edit: I personally would pick the Sugino with the aluminum rings over the one with steel rings

I ordered and my LBS is installing it this week. They looked at me like I was nuts for needing anything lowet than the stock 30t. I can understand their logic for local rides; I live in West Texas where you can see for miles and miles but, "It's for the Rockies" I tell them.
The owner of the shop used the word ******** about 5 times when I asked how much to release and re-tension the spokes on my stock Fuji Touring wheels. I guess I'll just take a truing stand on tour.
