Hey Everyone!

Here in Canada the government organizes a yearly Commuter Challenge (http://www.commuterchallenge.ca/) to encourage employers to car pool, bus, bike, walk, run, or basically to use environmentally friendlier means. I think its great we have this, especially in a country where many major cities have snow for at least 4 months of the year!

Different workplaces can log their kilometers biked, walked, bused etc and companies can win in terms of % of employees who participated, or the most KMs travelled, etc etc. Companies are grouped according to size, i.e., you can win in the 100-199 employees category.

There are some additional draws and prizes, and I entered a contest (http://www.resourceconservation.mb.ca/gci/wcc2004/bigbike_04.html) to write an article describing how to make Winnipeg (my hometown) more cycling friendly.

The article I entered is off my bikeGeek page - LINKY (http://www.thinktankproject.com/geek.jsp?section=bike) as item #5 in the center column "Cycling and Me". I'd love to hear any feedback and further suggestions on how YOU would make YOUR city more cycling friendly!

Ended up winning a nice gift certificate at a LBS here. I'm so excited!

Just thought I'd share the news. Always be encouraged to know that some governments are taking steps to promote cycling (and other sustainable forms of transportation)!

Ride hard,
-xan-
