Has anyone ever had sudden-onset knee pain on the inside of the knee while cycling? It hurts when flexing and applying pressure (i.e pedalling, squatting), but I can run on it fine.

Suggest that you see your doctor ASAP as pain that is sudden
onset often indicates an injury of some sort. Please don't ignore this pain. See your doctor........

1) What was the mechanism of injury? Any bruising or external marks?
2) Is there any instability?
3) Where is it most tender?
And in the end, you'll probably still have to see an orthopod or get an MRI.

I had my first experience ever with knee pain on my spring tour this year. It was my left knee but the pain (very sharp pain) was on the outside edge of the kneecap. Only slight swelling, and stiffness, but applying hard pedal pressure brought constant pain on every downstroke. It was so severe that I bailed early from my tour. 5 days off the bike, and the knee was like new! I really feel I stressed it early in the ride. I haven't done any more than 36 miles since I have returned, but no problems, so that is my self diagnoses. . . .

Key cause of knee pain is trying to go too hard without warming up properly, which places undue pressure on the joints. This is particularly important on a tour where you're riding large distances on a daily basis. Having said that, in this case I concur with those above who said go and see a doctor about it. This one may well have developed into something more serious.
