Awesome! My dad had live coverage but we had to leave... got home 1/2 hour later and NOTHING anywhere on tv covering it :(
It was by more than a mile. He lapped the field along with Levi, and Ben Jaques-Maynes (Bissel).

He lapped Levi and Ben or the three of them did it together?

1st time I've ever been lapped. Lance lapped me 4 times. :D
Can't tell you how electrifying it was each time he came by.

Man these guys came close to the crowd, I made sure my daughter didn't have a musette bag. What's up with the stealth bike?

Pizzaman DOES have a pain face.

Chris, Levi, and Lance all had the stealth bikes.

My friend Adam, I think he got lapped 5 times by Lance - might have been the plan... anyway he finished.

That sure sounds like a painful race. They don't even have a cat 4 or 5 race.

Scott, thanks for the pic!
Yeah, it was painful (kind of reminded me of the one Thursday night Marco ride I did)
Actually in both races I did (35+ & P/1/2), I was in last place for the first 2 laps since it went out so fast, then I just moved up as guys burnt out. I was able to get to the front and into a 3 man break in the 35+ race and hold on for 2nd. (Lost by a couple bike lengths in a blazing downhill sprint)
In the P/1/2 race, I think I passed around 40-50 guys, then had to start closing gaps to smaller groups that had been dropped. I think it was around 30 min into the 90 min race when Lance, Levi & Ben lapped me for the 1st time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chicovelo/3651348242/
I kept going hard though since I guess I was far enough ahead that I wasn't getting pulled. Near the end when they had the lap cards 9 to go, 8 to go, I was feeling pretty dead and really looking forward to Lance coming by again for 2 reasons. One was the adrenaline rush (even though the fans were always sreaming for everyone) and the other was that every time I got lapped meant one less lap I had to do since everyone finishes on the same lap. :p

About halfway through the Pro 1/2 race I was walking in the middle of the course but away from the actual road itself. You could tell where Lance was by just listening to where the loudest cheering was coming from. It was like "the wave" but with noise instead of arms :)
Does anyone know who #56 was in the Sugar CRM kit? I think the cheers for him were almost as loud as for Lance.
Pizza Man, I recognized you from seeing your picture on here but don't think I got any photos of you yesterday.

Anybody else drive back to the Bay Area after the race? They were doing highway construction on I-80 that caused a big jam-up - took 90 minutes to get from Vacaville to Fairfield (!!) and we didn't get home until after midnight.
I need a nap.

Most of my pictures were either out of focus or blurry (too slow shutter speed). This is my favorite one of the day though and it comes with about 5 laps to go:

Ugh, that sounds awful :(
I had flown into the Nevada County airport (same one the Astana guys flew into from Colorado!) and then drove a rental car the 5 miles into town. We had parked literally on the Sacramento St overpass so it was only about 100 feet to get back on highway 49 southbound :). Then it was 30 minutes to fly to Elk Grove to drop off my dad and then another 40 minutes from there to Palo Alto where we landed around 9:40pm. Fun and fast but sort of expensive to rent the plane

I was already a huge BJM fan before this... but now I think I like him even more. Also converted my mom to a fan.

Sounds like it must have been awesome to legitimately line up alongside LA. Certainly you're in the minority of riders here to be able to claim you can do that - I'm curious, was the experience more inspiring or humbling?

We didnt get home until 10:40 but we went home on the 99. Getting out of Nevada City was the worst. We had a great day out and the dogs enjoyed barking for Lance and Levi. I recon there was a few thousand spectators. My doggies were worn out with all the pats and cuddles they got :)

It's still open although there's a plan brewing to build a school nearby which would require shutting down the airport :(

Definitely more inspiring. Lance is a big part of the reason I started road biking. I've only been riding for less than 4 years. I bought my first road bike after watching Lance win TdF # 7 (well, actually on the Saturday before the final day, but he had it wrapped up by then).
When I saw Lance, Levi, & Horner come to the line I got goose bumps. It was a huge thrill!

Pizza Man - great story. That must have been a really awesome feeling racing in the same field as Lance.
I came across some great photos of the race. Lot's of good shots of the Astana boys, among many others.... http://www.racemtbikes.com/NCBC_Pro1&2/index.htm
I'm pretty sure this is Pizza Man accelerating out of the turn....

Cool. I was going to do the same but fly out of Reid-Hillview. The cost shelved it for us, so we drove up for the day from San Jose. Did you happen to see the Astana boys at the airport? Glad to know there's another pilot here.

We drove up for the day from San Jose, and got stuck in that awful construction mess. We had a leisurely dinner at Auburn, and hit the road at 10:15 pm. Smooth sailing till that mess in Fairfield. Tried to ride it out, but after about 30 mins of serious crawling, we exited and took the side streets to stay sane. We found an on-ramp down the road after the construction and jumped back on 80. All-in-all it cost us about 40 mins extra with us arriving home about 1:15 am. Long day but well worth it! Though I kinda wished we had flown instead like silentben did.
