Fassa Bortolo announced their Tour de France team:
"The full team is: Marzio Bruseghin, Fabian Cancellara, Juan Antonio Flecha Giannoni, Aitor Gonzalez Jimenez, Kim Kirchen, Alessandro Petacchi, Filippo Pozzato, Matteo Tosatto and Marco Velo."

Why is Dario Cioni not going? Is he just a casualty of the "all for Petacchi" tactics of Fassa?
He finished 4th in the Giro despite Petacchi's presence and is riding 46 seconds back in 5th place in the Tour de Suisse right now. Seems like he's really on this year and could take Basso's spot as a possible top 10 Fassa GC contender...

The answer is in the list of starters Fassa is bringing to the TDF. Aitor Gonzalez Jimenez. Former winner of the Tour of Spain and an excellent rider in all disciplines, mountains, Time trials, and not a bad road sprinter to boot. He will ride for GC for Fassa.

Cioni has had a hard late spring, early summer campaign and will no doubt start resting for his role at the Vuelta.

Ah, thanks. I didn't really know much about Aitor Gonzalez. It makes sense now, especially considering Cioni's schedule so far.
