Northeast - Renting a road bike and riding in Wildwood NJ

I'm off to Wildwood NJ next week and was curious if any of you can recommend a bike shop that rents road bikes as well as any nice areas to ride. I was considering taking my bike but am a bit paranoid about leaving it in the motel room, though I suspect I might be a bit paranoid.

They have a shop in Northfield which is only a few exits north of Ocean City on the GSP. They have a lot of high end bikes and a very nice selection of gear as well.

As for nice areas to ride, although the terrain is flat (I prefer hills), Ocean Drive is quite nice especially early in the morning when no one is on the road. I've biked from Ocean City to Cape May and back (60 mile round trip) a few times and always enjoyed the ride. I've done OC to North Wildwood many times as well (40 mile round trip)

Thanks for the info! I'm used to the rolling hills in my area so it will be interesting riding the flats. I suppose the bridges should provide some rolling hill effect.

I'm used to rolling hills as well. A typical 20 mile ride includes at least 1000 feet of climbing at home. Down there, I think my Polar recorded about 400 feet of climbing in over 60 miles. The bridges are nothing if you are used to hills but watch for the wind. Ideally you'll start off riding into it that way the ride home is much more fun rather than a struggle. You'll use your drops a lot more than ever before.

I did a 60ish mile loop from Cape May, passing through wildwood, using Rt 9, crossing the GSP at Stone Harbor (going to Springers) and taking the backroads down through Wildwood and then back to Cape May... it's a nice ride, off season, anyway. I don't recall the route info itself, but it shouldn't be too hard to map it. Rt 9 has lights and of course, there's a lighted intersection to cross the GSP, but the route between Stone Harbor and Cape May was nice and quiet..

they rent to city kid treks from camden to o/c..., should be another option...!
they had road bikes at hamilton mall shop, rent-able...?
