Mountain Biking - Bike Sitting In Shop...And No Money

Im sure this has happend to a few of you. What do you do when you're bike is sitting in the shop, and everything that needed to be done is done, but the estimate was way more than you thought it would be (80$ in my case) Are there any deals you can arrange with the shop, or what?

Get a job. Ask the owner if you can help him out around the shop. Or in my case get a parent to pay :)

You should always ask for an estimate before leaving your bike. I can't stand it when I give customers an estimater, ie $90 USD, and its around $94, and their *****in about 4 dollars. I know not every one is made of money, but if your willing to pay 90 for a repair, whats 4 bucks?

Good point. Always bring some extra money. An estimate isn't an exact amount. Aways take the estimate and raise it like 10$.

Doesn't this go both ways? Wouldn't the happy and repeat customers we worth the 4 bucks?

Get a credit card. Find one with no interest for 6 months, just make sure to pay minimum payments on time.

yikes! The poor guy can't caugh up $80 and you want him to start shifting his purchases to a credit card? CC's can be financial crutches and should not be used to front money IMHO. If you don't have it, don't spend it ... emergencies excepted.

Yeah, First mountain bike and I split the frame. I picked up a better designed frame for $72 shipped of ebay. I called the bike shop and they said about 45-60 to transfer everything from one frame to another. I had no money anyways and my mother was thinking about picking up the bill. When we took it in they totaled it up to $100 but gave me a 15% discount like always. They threw in a wheel truing and the rims were brand new. When I got the bike back the front wheel was dished and I asked why it wasn't aligned. They said that's an extra $15 bucks. They should of dished them and not trued them. Or actually not done anything at all to them. They said my bike would be back on the next thursday and it wasn't back until closing time saturday. I sat there for two hours waiting for my bike and at one point I was locked in there. If they didn't finish the bike I had no bike to get to church and I was definately not waiting until monday to get my bike back!
