Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I have narrowed it down to a Velocity Deep-V or a Mavic A-719 or 317 Disc. The bike in question is a Poprad Disc. I already have the hubs chosen and now deciding on the rims. Like i stated before I am larger rider, going to use it for general road, commuting and some touring.
What is best suited for this duty? I would like an "all black rim" will be using DT Comp spokes and it will be 36h f/r. How large of a tire can I fit on a 19mm wide rim like the deep-v? I plan on maybe going as high as 38mm. Any suggestions on the best all around tire for on/light-off road use? currently have the stock 34mm Jones CX.
As always, thanks for all the opinions!

Well, I think I'd take the A719. I've used the A319, and it's fairly light and pretty sturdy. It's wider, so it will take the wide tyres you are planning on using better. Deep V's are fairly narrow and not any lighter. So unless you like zany colours, I'd go for the A719.

I'd go with one of the Mavics. The manufacturer states that the minimum recommended tire width is 28mm, but there's no outer limit specified; I guess that would be determined by clearance issues. They'll definitely handle the weight, and they are decently light.

mavic a-719. it was designed to be stiffer and stronger than the older 319.

Thanks... do the A-719s come in an all black, non-machined sidewall? not much for the silver "whitewalls" so-to-speak. SInce it is a disc brake rig it wouldn't benefit any from the machined sidewalls really.

Another Velocity option is the areohead. Light and strong and come in off-center drilling in the rear for a stronger build (more even tension). Don't worry about having a thin rim. I run 38's without issue on 19mm rims.

Salsa makes both the Gordo & Semi 29er disc rims: http://www.salsacycles.com/rims.html
The Semi looks better for your needs;
Designed as an XC Trail rim
Welded seam for increased strength
30mm width, 575 grams
32 or 36 hole, ERD 605
Single stainless eyelets
Black or Polished Silver

The A719's should be excellent. I have the A317 as an aftermarket upgrade on my commuter bike. I was 240 lbs and commuting on very bad Chicago pavement. The A317s have been bullet proof for 2000 miles with no maintenance of any kind.

I'm @ 260 and hoping to be down to 230 or 220 by summer's end. I am actually going with the A719s in 36h/black.
I got a nice 52 miler in this morning before it hit 95 out! Ran out of h2o with 2 miles to go!

I rode along the lakefront in Chicago, it was a little better, but still HOT!
Cheers,
