Hey, I jsut bought some 2 by 4's and am looking to make some elevations/jumps. I'm not sure exactly what they are called. Theres a picture below. I was wondering how do you build that kind of stuff?

If you have no experience with that stuff, I wouldn't go big right away. Odds are, it will collapse and u'll hurt yourself.
Find someone that has experience and watch how they do it.

I havn't had much experience building but build it outa site if you don't want it torn down.
In my area, theres some serious trail nazis lurking aorund.

Its tough to explain. Really it just takes some creative thinking and a little knowledge. Look at pics of different builds and you will see varrying techniques. But really it isn't too hard. Some keys...
1 - create the triangle affect for maxium strength
2 - do not put ON the ground put IN the ground
3 - Please try not to nail into trees. There are support techniques with a little inventiveness that do not require to drive nails into trees
4 - Make your base wider than the laddar expodentially based on height
5 - make it with good wood. If you intend to leave the stunt there for all to use, use materials that are strong and long lasting AND keep it updated yourself. If this is going on a trail nothing is more ignorant then someone who wants to be cool and stuff something on a trail and just leave it to rot.
Cheers

I hvae 17 acres of my own property to build it on, if someone tears it down i'll hunt them down.

I would turn that into a full fledged park. So much I wanna build with so little space. You could get some decent trails in there if you use the terrain right.
I would definately do a thorough walkthrough and figure out where different obstacles should go. Make sure you also keep it so it maintains flow. No need to ruin the flow of the natural terrain. Figure out ways to work with it and you will be able to build a nice shore like trail :D I know you said only one stunt but also know it almost never stops there :)

This is a good one as it is the drop zone at whistler blackcomb. Easy construction and very effective. Depending on speeds can be a good sized drop. (or series of drops)
