I'm interested in front racks. I welded one up that works okay but I'm interested in commercial units.

Here is the rack I built.

I've begun a list below but I'd appreciate any other racks/manufacturers that are similar to what I've posted below.

CETMA Racks (http://www.cetmaracks.com/)

The Rack Lady (http://www.flickr.com/photos/26811168@N07/)

Thanks!

The porteur racks are cool, but this one can carry panniers low and a box on top if necessary.

I carried a case of wine on the shelf of mine for less than a mile. That was far enough to learn, "front racks are good until there is any weight on it". Quoted from the latest entry to Gwadzilla's blog.

Your rack looks nice though.

If you need to carry a box, put it over your rear wheel.

Your rack looks nice though.

Thanks. I had to put it up really high to clear the headlight. When it comes to carrying stuff up front, lower is always better.

The one I mounted on this frame was from Azor.

Clever Cycles may be able to get them.

It's pictured mounted on this frame.

Pletscher makes a smallish one too (http://www.yellowjersey.org/plet.html). IIRC it mounts on the fork crown.

As you may know, a fork with increased offset for reduced trail is preferred when carrying a front load:

I like the ones from Old Man Mountain,

and the Pass and Stow rack:

I think the "lower weight is better" is a bit of a misperception -- lowrider front panniers ride real nice not because they're low, but because the weight is further back around the steering axis, which doesn't happen putting panniers on the low rails of the Surly Nice / JandD Extreme style of rack.

A rack attached to the frame like on AllenG's bike skirts most of that handling problem nicely. Doesn't work with drop bars though.

I saw pictures of this rack but I couldn';t find it for sale! Thanks for the link. It is, IMHO, one of the best looking front racks available. And for that price it should be. :)

When I was in Europe a few months ago, very many bikes had Wald-style (brazed or welded chromed steel rod) front racks. They looked inexpensive and functional. Apparently such a thing is not available in the US. At least, I haven't been able to find any.

The European model is made by the Dutch manufacturer Steco.

Kinda jingus mounting. For light loads like pizza or take out only.
