General Cycling Discussion - Your opinion Please. Trek vs KHS

Well since the American bikes are way out of my price range. Im still looking for a good Hybrd. I found a Trek 100 and a KHS TC 100 for $199 each. I do most of my riding on a Rails to Trails bike path and take the road for 10 mile bike rides. Both bikes are very much alike. In your opinion which would you choose? I like both but I cant buy both. I want a bike that will last a long time. :D No other options.

Which one fits better and feels most comfortable?

Assuming both fit the same and are equally comfortable, I would probably pick the Trek since it seems to have more name brand components. However, all components at that pricerange will probably be of fairly equal quality. I do have reservations about the suspension fork on the Trek. I think I'd prefer a rigid fork over a cheap low-quality suspension fork that adds weight and complexity but offers no real advantage. No suspension is often better than bad suspension. I tend to feel the same about the suspension seatposts. On the other hand, the rigid fork on the KHS is also a very low quality rigid fork. In the end, where I in your position, I'd probably get the Trek and ask about substituting and/or upgrading seatpost and/or fork. Ask if the shop will give you some store credit for them if you decide to do this. I would personally swap in a cheap rigid alloy post like an Easton EA50 or even a Kalloy OEM post which cost about $15-$20 and swap the suspension fork for a nice quality steel rigid fork like a Surly 1x1 (~$50).
