This is the second year that I have a done a tri and I need a new bike. I only have about 400.00 to spend but would like something that will last me awhile.Should I go with a new or a used bike? What do I look for or what does it need to have. Mountain or Road Bike? I don't know a lot about bikes and always feel like when I go tot a bike shop that they are just trying to sell me something.PL:EASE HELP!!!!!

What´s wrong with your current bike?
Getting a mountain bike for triathlons..... unconventional.
Local Craig´s List maybe? Thrift stores? Slow Twitch classified ads? eBay?
$400 isn´t a colossal amount, but it is possible to build up something pretty good with minimal know-how, a bit of patience if you are handy with a spanner.

Could you please give details on your current bike? other than that, buy the bike for the surface you will be on (road), buy what you can afford (used) and if you want you can add aero bars later.
It does not need to be great, I am riding a 1982 Nishiki International with aerobars, and with the bike all lubed up, I am competing with people riding P3s.

My current bike is just a department store and doesn't work very well.I have found a 2002 Giant OCR3 Roadbike on craigslist for 350.00. Do you think of this bike and is it a good deal?

I found this bike on craigslist for 295.00 . What do you think? This is a 21 speed Raleigh Technium Olympian with some nice upgrades. It is a lightweight aluminum frame with 700c Mavic Wheels. It has a Shimano Exage crankset with Biopace chainwheels that are in great shape. These were made for a short while and are very collectable I also upgraded the front derailleur to an Ultegra. It has nice pedals with cages as well.
The bike has brand new 18mm 700c tires. This is a great bike to get into road biking without spending a fortune.
