This is my friend Kelly and his new bike. As you can see, he is no lard @$$ but he did hit a small pot-hole that was under some watter at speed! Do you think this should have happened? And YES,,, he is ok after taking a bad flying lesson!

I took this photo the other day and I have to wonder if bambooO is stronger than carbon fiber :twitchy:!

Yes it is made out of bamboo!
WoW,,, that is sort of fun to say,,, bamboo, bamboo, BAMbooooO!!!

Is this where I'm supposed to say "steel is real"?

I'd certainly be returning that puppy. I guess we'll find out how good BikesDirect is at returns and warranty claims.

Yikes.

Not fully snapped in half like that, but I got to see a Specialized Tarmac S-Works with a big ol' hole punched through the top tube at one of the LBSs. One of the shop guys got hit while out riding, and it totalled the frame. On the plus side, the layup on those things is pretty phenominal and the shop now uses it as a demo to show people the frame construction from the inside out.

Holy moly! As Austin Powers so aptly said, "Ouch, baby, very ouch." A great visual argument for improved roads in our Great Lake State. In addition to preventing Kelly and many others from becoming a human shish kebab, it'd help to reduce Michigan's woeful unemployment rate! :thumb:

what about "bamboo is coo' "? However that looks pretty bad for a "small pothole" so I'd be making a warranty claim for sure.

Bamboo is well known for its flexibility and strength and is used extensively in construction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo#Construction) in certain parts of the world.

WOW !That is crazy. Now I understand why I always had a bad feeling about CF bikes or parts. Thanks for the pics.

A little bit of super glue, duct tape, and baling wire and it'd be a good as new!
Sorry, old dirtbike adage!

Really, because of one picture? I guess you won't be buying a steel or aluminum bike or part either.

Judging from the context of the picture, yeah. I don't think i'm careful enough to own a carbon fiber frame for very long.

+1.

I tend to ride through things and not so much around them as often as I should. That's why my commuter wears a steel frame/fork and 26" wheels.

Holy moly!

Or, might it be said... "Holy Cro-Moly!" Seriously...I know CF has its biggest benefits to the lightest of riders, because i'm sure if well designed and implemented, blah, blah, blah....I foam at the mouth when i can pick up some $5000 carbon dream machine with my pinky finger, but i wouldnt dare ride on something that wasnt made of metal...but that's just my $0.02...i'm glad your friend was okay after the mishap :thumb:
