Very cool. I'll have to check it out sometime since I only have to cross my own state to get to it. :) The only issue I have with rail-to-trails is that sometimes I want to be riding through little towns and oftentimes those bikepaths don't go through them. The other thing is that these paths often turn into glorified sidewalks with pedestrians and rollerbladers which can be even more annoying than cars.

EDIT: There is another trail in Idaho that was the Milwaukee Road right-away. I'm looking for the link to it too. Idaho is ahead of the curve in rails to trails development.

It's a great trail! I rode parts of it 5 times last season. Lots of great scenery as you can see from the pictures on the website. Lots of wildlife, too. A buddy of mine and I rode part of it mid-week last year. 45 miles and only saw 4 other cyclists (one group), an in line skater (very cute!), and a lot of bear scat (yikes). In a few weeks, I plan to ride from Plummer to Harrison and back and that will complete the trail for me. They just finished the bridge that spans the southern end of the lake - it's only been opened about a month. Since it's a rails-to-trails, it's pretty flat, but the view is beautiful. If anyone's coming this way and wants a riding partner, let me know. There's also another rails-to-trails near the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes - the Hiawatha Trail. The Hiawatha is not paved, but a hybrid will work fine. It's like dirt road high in the mountains for the most part. You go through a number of unlighted tunnels and over a bunch of high trestles - the view is breathtaking. Take a look at the website.
