Anybody have a date on this:

Felt F1X Fork Recall The 2007-08 Felt F1X

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Felt Bicycles has a voluntary recall of about 1450 2007/2008 F1X Cyclocross bicycles.
The bicycle’s fork steerer tube can break, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer injuries. There have been six reports of these forks breaking with minor injuries reported in two of the incidents.
The recall includes all 2007/2008 Felt F1X Cyclocross Bicycles. These bicycles are available in Semi-Matte Black and have aluminum frames with carbon fiber forks with aluminum steerer tubes.
Bicycle specialty stores nationwide sold the 2007/2008 Felt F1X Cyclocross between July 2006 and April 2009 for between $1,449.00 and $1,499.00. They were manufactured in Taiwan.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact their local Felt Bicycles dealer to receive a free inspection and repair.

For additional information, call Felt Bicycles toll-free at (866) 433-5887 or (866) 4-FELT-US, or visit the company web site at www.feltbicycles.com

It references inspection and repair. Is this just a fork replacement? Anybody had this done already?

I'd prefer to not darken the local dealers doorstep if at all possible.

I can read.
I left a phone message with Felt already.
That was cut and pasted from the Felt website. Thanks for your stellar BF help.

Just spoke to somebody at FELT on the phone.
My understanding post conversation is this:
The forks will be replaced, forks will not be ordered by the individual retailers until the bikes come in. The affected bikes do need to go back to an authorized Felt retailer.
Timing roughly "all depends on how fast we get them out and how fast you get them brought to the shop and they get them ordered"

No problem because you know BF members are likely to know more about the situation than Felt would.

This is typical of the way Felt handles stuff like this. Every authorized Felt dealer should have been notified of the recall and then those dealers have to be responsible to contact every customer they sold that particular bike to inform them that there is a saftey recall on their fork and that they have one in stock that Felt already made available to them ready to install on their bike.

I guess this recall affects my bike. :( Thanks for the heads up. The shop I purchased my F1X at is not really my favorite and I would hate to leave my bike there as not once has their service fixed anything, but at least it is close and I have a backup bike. Can I get the fork and install it myself? Do I get to keep the old fork for wall art?

Nope and probably nope.

The shop I'm dealing with is small enough that they are getting the fork ordered without actually taking possession of my bike, said he'd call me when it arrives. YMMV
