I know I've probably overstayed my welcome on this topic, but with all my route-planning and note-taking during my trial run of the waterfront walkway to Liberty Park, I forgot to write down where the parking garages are.

I may take my wife back there this weekend (if the sun actually shines) and the PATH train from Manhattan just won't cut it this time. It seems we could get away with parking in the Target lot (Newport) for a few hours (someone here suggested it should be OK) but I'd rather not worry about the car all day. I'd also rather avoid the roads that lead from Hoboken to the beginning of the walkway, which is why I'm thinking we'll start the ride in Newport.

Anyway, can any of you Jerseyites suggest a reasonably-priced parking garage in Newport?

I'm going to guess that parking at the Newport Mall lot would be cheaper than any of the lots attached to the Newport residential buildings.

I'm not clear exactly what the Newport Mall is. I thought it might be that shopping center that includes the Target store, but that doesn't make it much of a mall, does it? Is the Newport Mall in that same general area?

I'm not clear exactly what the Newport Mall is.

It's a big enclosed mall with Sears, etc - and several pay parking decks. It's just a little bit south of Target, and on the west side of the light rail tracks - about a block west of Washington Blvd. From Washington, it's kind of tucked behind all those office towers; turn on 6th St or Newport Parkway to get to the mall parking lots.

Thanks. I'll Google it.

For anyone interested, we parked in the enclosed mall lot for $10. This gave us plenty of time to get up and back, spend a good amount of time in the park, and even visit Hoboken for a sidewalk lunch.

This is a great ride for people like my wife, who grew up in Queens and is still new to bicycling. However, if you can get to Hoboken or Newport without a car, that's even better.

Great, glad that worked out. And finally some summer-y weather on a weekend!

Last weekend I did a recovery ride down on the waterfront, and it looks like the segment of the path connecting Newport to the train/PATH/ferry/light rail station (and the waterfront north of the station) in Hoboken is almost complete. Doesn't mean it'll be open any time soon, of course.
When it IS open, it'll really expand the riding you can do on the west side of the Hudson without a lot of traffic interaction.

I was told that there's a way to follow the waterfront from Hoboken to the GWB. THAT'd make a great ride....Start in downtown Manhattan on the Hudson River Greenway, cross the George, and ride down the other side of the river to Liberty State Park.

Do you know anything about the route between Hoboken and the bridge?
