Well I am finally moving back to the states and was wondering if anyone was familar with the kind of riding available in upstate NY. Mainly focusing on the capital district region, near or around Albany rather than ADK. I will admit being nervous about riding back in the states. All in all its been very pleasent cycling in japan.

Upstate NY riding ROCKS! I grew up in Oneonta (about 45 minutes away from Albany). Once you get out of the main towns its nothing but quiet country roads, rolling hills, and NO cars!! I never really had trouble with rednecks either, and the area around Oneonta is pretty hardcore rural, although at that time I wasnt wearing spandex, so who knows. Im not sure about the Albany area as there is a fair amount of suburban sprawl around it- Rensselear, Troy, etc. But I'll tell ya, get yourself out of the main towns and there are infinite riding possibilities, each more scenic than the next.
