Mountain Biking - Starting to plan my next bike... yay or nay?

Does anyone know anything about this frame? any good? or is it just a POS?

Its good from what I hear. It's the next bike I am likely to end up buying

Standard looking linkage driven single pivot (faux bar) ala Kona and many others. Comes with a decent shock and looks burly-ish.

Looks catalogue fame-ish, and similar to many, many other bikes from other companies. Probably pretty standard hardware and sizing for parts, so you'd be able to get replacement bolts and bearings all over the place.

If the geo and size is right, go for it. Probably rides as well as many other more expensive bikes, and PP usually takes care of things pretty well if things go bad.

Have a relative or friend state-side buy it for you and ship it over; shouldn't be that hard.

the Sette Flite has caught my eye also, its more towards All mountain, what I've been looking for... Just a tad more expensive.

It's also not on a blow out deal sale though.

I just dont know much about Sette's frames and such, and wanted some additional information. From the reviews they seem pretty solid and got a lot of bang for the buck.

I also like the way they both look.

I think I found my next bike. I just need to make sure they'll fit right.

get the burlier frame and run it in the lower travel setting. it'll stand up to future abuse, and pehaps be a bit more cheeto-proof.

I'm going to print out the geometry of the All mountain one and see how it compares and what it "should" feel like.

Well, I compared the geometry of my bike and the Sette, and they are almost exactly the same, with the exceptions of the head tube angle, and seat tube angle.
I like the angles of the Sette better anyways...

now I have two options,
Buy it while I'm here in Germany, and pay for it to be shipped here,

or,
I'll be going back to the states for college, and if my college allows (might be going to a military college) I'll buy it then.

You realize you posted 2 different bike in the OP right? I was thinking you were talking about the Flite to begin with.

If you get the frame only, what fork are you going to use? I looks like its intended for something with 6 in of travel (as you probably know).

I was originally talking about just the frames.

But then I saw the Flite and Ace builds and they both caught my eyes, but as I want to do more than XC with the bike, I've settled down on the Flite.

Most of the colleges I'm after.... the "cadets" for the ROTC program aren't allowed to own cars until at least your Junior year.... So I wont be needing one if I go there.

a decent bike, on the other hand will be great. or... for a commuter I can use the trek.

I've got a 140mm Revelation with a 20mm Maxle setup up for grabs... That would go nicely with that frame... It's even white. $350 or so... Way less than MSRP. :)

If you build up a nice bike, don't commute on the thing. Yep, use the Trek. You'd be just asking for anything nicer to be stolen.

Originally I was thinking about swapping all of my parts over because the only thing I would need is a different headset. But for the price the complete is the better way to do it because the part spec is better that what I have for less money than what I would have in it if I were to get the frame.

I was still thinking that if I were to get the complete bike I would swap the forks and convert the 55r to 55 TST2 with the cartridge modified to be a shim stack based damper rather than a lockout. This would also include the travel being increased to 160mm. The Domain would bet a better fit for the Shadow because of the U-turn, I would probably run it at 120 most of the time.

Would you mind sending me some pics/a bit more info? I love the talas, but I'd also love to have something with a TA.

TA are nice, the difference between my manitou black and the 55r was crazy. The black doesn't have a reputation for being a stiff fork though.

Well the cool thing is I showed my parents and they gave me the "What ever... it's your money....." speech lol...

LOL, Let me GET the bike and ride it first, before I start buying a new fork for it.

The fork it comes with is better than anything I've ever used anyways, lol.
