Tandem Cycling - Cheap source for SRAM chains?

I just replaced the sync and drive chains last night and my chain stock is now depleted. I prefer to buy chains and cassettes ahead of time so that I not only have them "in stock" when I need them, but I can shop for the best price without the pressure of needing them "right now". I already have a good source for PG-970 cassettes, but I'd like to know if anyone has a favorite source for SRAM PC-951 and PC-850 chains. Thanks.

I 'm like you and try to keep an inventory of chains and I shop for best price a lot.. for our tandems I happen to use Shimano DA 7701 9sp. I watch ebay on a regular basis and buy when I find a deal that works for me...untimately that has given me the lowest overall costs. Have also sourced chains for my other bikes including Sram 9 and 10 speed chains with like results.

I just picked up several PC-870s from JensonUSA in SoCal. I didn't burn too many cycles shopping price, but from cursory observation their price on that particular item fit the budget.

When I was in the market for a new SRAM PC-1090R recently, I found the best price was on eBay.
Strangely enough, the seller turned out to be a *pawn* shop.
Go figure.

If you are not absolutely committed to SRAM (my favorite chain) Nashbar sells 'tandem or
recumbent" chains in ~220 or 230 link lengths in 8 and 9 spd now and then for about $20.
For the timing chain it makes little difference what you use as shifting is not a factor and
timing chains last 2-3 drive chains. The timing chain can be any thing from 5 spd upto 10spd
in size without much concern apart from aesthetics and cost.

Haven't checked eBay, but here are two sources I use when I need supplies. Have to check the exchange rates. The size of the order may give you free shipping.

Any internet sources for "bulk" chain? My daVinci needs a 124 link drive chain and I believe this is longer than the standard length chain.

That's the best you can do? $12.98 for a PCS 850? I can get it for $12 at a reputable source (Jenson) ;)

Which brings up the bigger point...you have to buy an awful lot a chains to really save more than a few bucks. Is that really time well spent?
I can understand for big parts (derailleurs, shifters, etc., etc.), because shopping around can make quite the difference there, but for chains? I doubt it

You could spend that time you wasted checking eBay/Google daily and go for a ride....
